Getting to the University Campus in Medan, Indonesia

Medan is the primary gateway to Sumatra with daily direct flights from Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

USU is just 15 minutes away from the Medan airport. Taxis may add a surcharge plus road toll, so you will need additional rupiahs for the ride. All airports have porter service and banks for changing currency. Allow plenty of time for immigration and customs.

If you wish to travel around the city, Medan has metered taxis and hire cars available through most hotels.

The Oplet & The Bemo
You may also see one of these unique transports during your study in Indonesia.

The oplet is the Indonesian answer to the Philippine jeepney. They are cheap and handy, and they travel regular routes.

The bemo is a three-wheeled motorized pedicab that follows regular routes and may be hired out for individual use. When the fare on a bemo isn’t posted, check the price with other passengers

Getting to the Penang International Airport in Penang, Malaysia

The permanent campus for the Allianze College of Medical Sciences is in the planning stage. When development is completed at the proposed Kepala Batas location, students returning to Penang for their clinical studies will enjoy many hi-tech facilities.

To get to the Penang International Airport, students may hop onto any one of the direct flights running daily from Medan to Penang. Approach personnel at the travel counters located in the airport for the best way to reach Kepala Batas. The airport has banks for changing currency and an information counter to assist you in other matters.

Taxis are readily available at the airport for your journey to Kepala Batas and the airport taxi counter will have details about pricing.

The trip from the Penang International Airport to Kepala Batas will take about 60 minutes.

There are two ways to cross over to the mainland from the island. The Penang Bridge is closer to the airport and is a faster way of getting across, linking drivers to the major highways. The local ferry is a slower route but it takes you directly to the train and bus terminals on the mainland.
